The Japanese Embassy displayed various aspects of traditional and modern Japanese culture at King Faisal School's sixth annual day recently.

Tsuyoshi Ando, head of the cultural and educational section at the Japanese Embassy in Riyadh, said Thursday that it was a "good opportunity to enhance bilateral relations."

"With an increasing young generation in Saudi society, there is growing interest in education and culture among students. The embassy would like to encourage and support the collaboration between Japan and Saudi Arabia in these areas," Ando said.

He said the embassy plans to hold various cultural and educational events next year to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said the embassy displays included Japanese calligraphy called shodo, traditional paperwork or origami, ancient clothes known as happi, and comics in the anime and manga styles.
