Minister of Social Affairs Yousef Al-Othaimeen has ordered the formation of a ministerial committee to inspect conditions on the ground at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Jazan.

The committee, headed by Salem Basehi, director-general of Social Affairs in Jazan, will take testimonies of guests at the center who have alleged that patients are treated inhumanely.

The committee will then submit a report on activity at the center.

The National Society for Human Rights has also sought a probe into the center’s affairs following the airing of video clips on MBC depicting ill-treatment of patients.

Ahmad Al-Bihkali, head of the society's branch in Jazan, said officials will soon pay a visit to the center to intercept first-hand any human rights violations taking place.

“Patients at the center must exercise their lawful rights in compliance with the regulations stipulated by the Kingdom. One should, however, take into consideration the fact that while some of these centers suffer from neglect, poor hygiene and ill-treatment of inmates, others have dedicated personnel working around the clock to serve the disabled,” said Al-Bihkali.
