Civil Defense teams in Jeddah successfully rescued three people from the same family who were trapped by a fire at their home in north Jeddah. A fourth individual, also present in the home at the time of the fire, died as a result of suffocation.

According to Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Makkah, a report was received at 7:56 a.m. on Friday about a fire along Prince Majed Street.

He said fire and rescue teams from the Civil Defense and Red Crescent rushed to the scene and found clouds of smoke erupting from a single-story house. Rescue teams were able to enter the house from the main entrance and rescue a man, his wife and daughter.

A fourth resident, in his twenties, died at the scene as a result of choking. Three other individuals were immediately taken to hospital to receive treatment for severe suffocation and burns.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire was centered mainly at the entrance of the house. The house consists of two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen. Investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire.
