JEDDAH: Even as Jeddah Health Department is investigating the death of a 3-month-old child in the Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Al-Musadiyah from viral infection, a Saudi woman accused the same hospital of causing the death of her 11-month-old daughter from an overdose of medicine.
The Jeddah Health Department said the mother filed the complaint and the competent authorities initiated the necessary action. The medical file of the deceased child was seized and a technical and medical committee was formed to study the case. The woman said she gave birth to her child in the hospital. Two months later, the infant had a high fever and the hospital's emergency department said the girl suffered a minor lung infection and needed to be hospitalized for IV feeding.
“I was told she had been cured after 15 days in the intensive care unit. When the doctors asked me to take my child I was surprised she was not moving. She was dead.”
