The Jeddah Municipality announced that construction work to implement bridges and tunnels will be done within the expected time frame.

Mohammed Al-Bugami, spokesperson of the municipality, stated that the municipality conducts regular field visits at the ongoing projects to make sure that they are being implemented in time.

Al-Bugami told Arab News that the mayor will be visiting ongoing projects that aim to release the traffic along the main roads and intersections, as well as eliminating traffic lights. He added that the municipality is keen on keeping a high coordination with the consultants and contractors to ensure the projects meet the deadlines.

According to Al-Bugami, there are six projects that are currently under construction in Jeddah. One of these projects is the tunnel that extends throughout King Abdulaziz Road and its intersection with Palestine and Al-Hamra Streets, to facilitate traffic movement on King Abdulaziz Road. Another mayor infrastructure being hauled is the tunnel and bridge of Prince Majed Road Intersection with the old Makkah Road, in addition to a two-way tunnel at the Old Makkah Road.

He added that around SR1.5 billion were allocated to support the general budget.

Jeddah’s Mayor Hani Abu Ras has announced that bidding just started for 17 developmental projects, while the municipality signed contracts for 124 infrastructure projects last year estimated at SR3 billion. The total financial allocations for the past two years amount to SR4 billion and 506 million to implement these projects in different sectors in Jeddah and the accompanying governorates.

Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at Jeddah Municipality, Ali Naffa’ Al-Sulami, said that the implemented projects included the construction of new roads and maintenance of old ones including bridges, tunnels, asphalt paving and lighting.

Al-Sulami added that the municipality has also implemented public infrastructure projects such as waterfronts, open areas and public parks. “These grand projects had a deep impact on Jeddah’s developmental renaissance and the city has been transformed into a big development workshop,” he said.
