The Jeddah Municipality has started working on implementing the newly announced Jeddah Urban Transport system project.

Mayor Hani Aburas declared yesterday the institution of the Jeddah Urban Development Company. Ibrahim Katabkhana, a senior high-ranking official at the municipality, was named CEO of Jeddah Metro. The project will play a key role in the Jeddah Urban Transport system and will cost an estimated SR 45 billion.

Katabkhana has been playing a crucial role in several mega projects and studies of the Jeddah Municipality.

A high-level committee, chaired by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and including the minister of municipal affairs, the minister of transport and the minister of finance as members, will oversea the overall development of the transport system.
