A mentally ill expatriate man killed his wife and four daughters on Wednesday in Jeddah and then surrendered to police at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

Police said Abdul Kalam, 42, is a Burmese national who lives in Kilo 14 in Jeddah.

Ateh Al-Quraishi, spokesperson of Makkah police, said the man handed himself over to the police at the Grand Mosque.

He alleged that the man stabbed his family members to death with a sharp object.

The spokesperson said the Jeddah police operations room had received information that a person of Asia nationality had killed his wife and four daughters at his home in southern Jeddah.

Al-Quraishi said initial inquiries had revealed that the killer was suffering from psychological problems

Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz Al-Asooli is investigating the case, according to police.
