Scratches and strangulation marks on the neck of a disabled inmate in the comprehensive rehabilitation center in Taif led his parents to doubt the circumstances leading to his death after he was admitted to the ICU without their knowledge.

According to Misfer Al-Maliki, his brother was moved between rehabilitation centers in Madinah and Baljurashi, and lastly to Taif, where he spent more than 12 years because of a mental and physical disability. During this time he had many accidents, the worst of which was falling and breaking his front tooth.

A week ago he was moved to King Faisal Complex in Taif and admitted to the intensive care unit. When his mother visited him he was out of the center, but when the family saw him next he was dead with scratches and strangulation marks on his neck.

Al-Maliki said they filed a complaint with the rehabilitation center in Al-Faisaliya, and sent telegrams to the Ministries of Social Affairs and Interior, saying the center caused the death of his brother because of medical negligence.

He added that earlier when his mother met with the center’s director and threatened to file a complaint of poor medical care, he told her to take her son and go away. He said that the family didn’t receive a report about his death, and consequently can’t hold those who caused his death accountable.
