RIYADH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has sent a cable of condolences to UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the death of former PremierMargaret Thatcher.

"We have learned the news of the death of Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, who has served her country faithfully and contributed to the development of relations between our two friendly countries. On behalf of the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we offer our deepest condolences to you, the family of the deceased, and the British friendly people," King Abdullah said in his message.

A similar cable of condolences has been sent to Cameron by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense.

Thatcher died in London's Ritz Hotel on April 8 at the age of 87, after suffering a stroke. She was Britain's first female prime minister and was in office from 1979 to 1990.

Thatcher will be given a funeral with military honors at St. Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday.
