JEDDAH: While tourists, students, and diplomats abroad are expected to reflect the best face of their countries by abiding by local regulations and norms, tourists from the Gulf, specifically Saudi Arabia, often fuel negative stereotypes while they are abroad.
Tourists from some countries complained this summer about the inappropriate behavior exhibited by Saudi and Arab tourists.
A resident in London said the city witnessed an increased number of Saudi tourists who, for the most part, fail to respect the country’s rules and norms.
Such behavior was observed in public gardens, shops, hotels and even historial sites.
Saleh Alabdullah, a civil engineer, said he travels abroad annually to enjoy his holiday, but with the increasing number of scholarship students, with travel becoming less limited to certain classes, and with growing usage of social media and the Internet, fewer travelers to foreign countries comply with local traditions and cultures.
