The Secretary of Madinah region, Dr. Khaled Bin Abdul Qader Taher, has issued a decision to establish an Environmental Sustainability Unit under the General Directorate of Health Environmental Affairs, according to an announcement by Abdullah Al-Qahtani, the Director of the General Directorate of Environmental Health at the Madinah Secretariat.

According to Al-Qahtani, the unit will be responsible for applying environmental sanitation standards, putting in place development plans and proposals that aim toward achieving environmental sustainability, preparing studies and specialized technical audits to achieve integrated environmental management systems, preparing sanitation and environmental educational programs to be implemented in coordination with the Secretariat Department of Information, preparing brochures of the terms and specifications of the environmental impact assessment studies, and applying all activities that fall under the jurisdiction of the standards of environmental sustainability.
