The Makkah Municipality plans to replace 24 signal lights and roundabouts with overpasses or underpasses to ease traffic flow in the city.

The municipality has already started 12 projects, with 12 others under study. The plan includes the construction of seven new link roads to connect some districts.

One project currently underway is at the intersection of Omar Qadi Street and Taif Al-Sail Road. This will enable motorists to drive from Makkah to Taif and back without any stops in between. An overpass will be built for those traveling from Omar Qadi Road to Makkah.

Another project is at the crossing of Masjid Al-Haram Road with Muzdalifa/Daqam Al-Wabr Road, including a loop road to smooth traffic flow in either direction.

The construction of an overpass at the crossing of Taif-Al-Hada Road with Al-Ehsan Street will ensure motorists need not stop at any signal between Makkah and Al-Hada Road.

An overpass at the crossing of Madinah Road with the Al-Nawariah area over Ring Road 4 with three lanes in either direction will ensure free flowing traffic on the ring road to Makkah's southern and eastern districts.

The traffic between the Taif-Sale Road and Makkah will be signal-free with the construction of an overpass at the intersection of the Taif-Sale Road and Hera Street.

The sixth project is to build an intersection between Al-Hada Road with Ibrahim Al-Juffali Street to free up traffic on Ring Road 4 and ease movement on Ibrahim Juffali Street and in the Al-Naseem area.

Another overpass will be built at the crossing of Ibrahim Al-Juffali Road with Ring Road 4 in the direction of the ring road.

Another project is to build an overpass at the intersection of Iskan Road with Ring Road 4 in the direction of south Makkah.

There would also be an overpass built at the intersection of Umm Al-Katad Street with Ring Road 4, and an underpass at the intersection of Batah Quraish with Ring Road 4, to free up traffic on Ring Road 4 to the north and east.

An overpass to Al-Malik Tunnel will ease traffic on Ajyad Road. In addition, the municipality plans to build an underpass on Old Jeddah Road, an overpass on Hajoun Road, and convert Abdullah Oraif Street and Al-Kholaifi Road to one-way roads.
