A teenager was run over and killed by a car when he intervened in a family dispute that had erupted between a man and his son-in-law in a desert area northwest of Arar on Friday.

Northern Border police spokesman Brig. Bandar Al-Eidaa said in a statement that police in Arar received a report that a 40-year-old man suffered head injuries, while a 17-year-old had been hit by a car.

“Investigations revealed that the man had assaulted his daughter’s husband in the dispute, which took place 90 km from Arar,” the spokesman told a local newspaper.

The defendant ran over his son-in-law’s nephew, who tried to intervene to end the dispute, with his car as he was leaving the site. The victim died soon after being admitted to hospital.

He said the case has been referred to the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution for further action.
