The Saudi citizen who tried to kill his wife over a financial dispute in court premises and then attempted suicide by pulling the trigger on himself on Monday continued to be in a critical condition on Tuesday with doctors at the Al-Noor Specialist Hospital making all attempts to save him.

The 45-year-old had slipped into coma and is yet to come out of it, hospital sources said.

The condition of his estranged 38-year-old wife, who took five bullets in the shocking incident in the premises of the General Court in Makkah, has been described as stable by both hospital and security authorities.

Local media quoting sources said the Saudi citizen and his wife appeared before the court for the judicial hearing pertaining to the custody of their children. After the second session, the judge referred the case to the reconciliation committee, but, surprisingly, the man went to his car and took out his personal pistol and fired eight shots at his wife, of which five hit her. He then ran back to his car and shot himself in the mouth in an attempt to commit suicide, but failed.

The wife was hit on her shoulder, abdomen, head, and feet. Both of them shifted to Al-Noor Hospital. “The condition of the wife is stable, but the husband, who slipped into coma, is very critical,” said the source.

Makkah Police acting spokesman Lt. Col. Zaki Al-Rehaili said a security cordon was thrown around the site, with initial information indicating that the citizen ran toward his wife and her father while they were coming out of the General Court and shot his wife. The couple was in a dispute over financial matters.

“Security patrols and forensic experts have completed all their procedures even as the couple was taken to the hospital by three teams of the Red Crescent. They are now being treated in the intensive care unit,” Al-Rehaili said.

“The man is in critical condition and in coma. The crime file has been handed over to Ajyad police, and they are conducting further investigations,” he said.

Bassam Al-Magrabi, director of public relations and media spokesman of Makkah Health Aaffairs, said that the medical team at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital were exerting all efforts to treat the man and his wife.

“The husband was injured in the neck and is still alive but in critical condition, while the wife’s condition is stable. They are now receiving medical attention supervised by a specialized medical team,” he said.
