The death toll from the MERS rose to 62 in the Kingdom after a man succumbed to the disease in Riyadh, health officials said on Thursday.

“Investigation and ongoing follow-up carried out by the Ministry of Health on the coronavirus, which causes MERS-CoV, registered the case of a 55-year-old citizen in Riyadh suffering from the chronic disease,” said a statement issued on the Ministry of Health website.

The ministry also announced a new case in the Riyadh province, bringing the total number of cases in the Kingdom, the worst hit, to 150 since the virus first appeared in September 2012.

According to the WHO, a total of 185 cases of MERS infection have been reported worldwide, out of whom 81 were fatal. There is no vaccine for the virus so far.
