RIYADH: The Labor and Social Development Office in Aflaj province has come across 15 cases of the labor laws being violated blatantly by some contracting firms whose laborers are toiling under the sun during the scorching summer season.
The ministry issues advisory every year during the summer when the temperature reaches its peak, exposing workers to the risk of sun stroke, however, some management bodies apparently do not take these warnings seriously enough, much to the detriment of the workers rights.
The government regulation seeks to ensure the safety and welfare of workers in all enterprises by stipulating that they are not allowed to work from noon until 3 p.m.
The inspection teams confirmed that they would continue their campaigns and urged all employers to protect their workers from the risk of sun stroke and other hazards.
The ministry pointed out that the regulation exempts workers of the oil and gas companies as well as maintenance and emergency workers. However, their companies are required to take other kinds of precautionary measures.
