JEDDAH: A Saudi scholarship student who had gone missing in Germany after he had gone out for swimming near the Neckar River in the state of Baden Wurttemberg is now confirmed dead.
The Saudi Embassy in Germany said the body of Mortada Al-Mishaal, 25, was found on the shores of the Neckar River on Thursday.
Saudi Ambassador Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad offered condolences to Mortada’s family in Qatif. He said the embassy will complete all procedures to repatriate his body to the Kingdom.
Ahmad Al-Mishaal said his brother had gone on a cruise on the Neckar River with his German friends during the evening hours of Saturday when there was thick fog.
The scholarship student had arrived in Germany in 2010 to study dentistry, before changing his specialty to biochemistry. He had also been working at a company in Germany and was a goalkeeper for a German football team.
