A two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Health (MoH) for coordinators of the Elderly Care Program (ECP) concluded in Riyadh last week.

The workshop’s objective was to define the role of coordinators, identify a mechanism for applying the ECP and to complete its executive plan besides discussing follow up action on its application in the region.

It also discussed the achievements as per last year’s target and also the mechanism of applying the executive plan during the current year.

Dr. Maison Al-Amoud, coordinator of the ECP, explained that the workshop was the first to be held this year and will be followed by a series of workshops and meetings.

Stating that the workshop targeted coordinators of the ECP in all regions and governorates, she said 1,484 personnel underwent training last year, including 680 doctors and 804 nurses. The program also imparted training to 4,185 trainees to apply the National Protocol of Elderly Healthcare, provide them with comprehensive and integrated health services, promote health of the elderly and disseminate the program to all primary health care centers in all regions, she said.

Dr. Maison also stressed that applying the ECP started at the primary health care centers in all directorates of various regions that are eligible for applying the first phase of the program.

These centers were equipped with the necessary supplies to apply the program such as files and records of the elderly health care, guidance to elderly health care and guidance of procedures and actions of the elderly health care program at the primary health care centers.
