The Ministry of Labor has halted services to hundreds of private schools due to the late payment of employees’ salaries.

The ministry took this decision in line with the wage protection system and will implement a series of measures to ensure regular salary payment to private sector workers, which will be achieved in phases.

Faisal Al-Otaibi, director of the inspections department at the Ministry of Labor, said the ministry stopped serving 922 schools because they did not adhere to stipulations cited in the wage protection program introduced by the government at private schools.

“The ministry will take severe penal action against institutions that do not implement the ministry’s instructions,” he said.

Al-Otaibi was speaking at a workshop organized by the the Asharqia Chamber’s main center.

He added that the ministry’s program aims to create a database with up-to-date information, especially on salary payment and to monitor employers’ commitment to paying salaries in full and on time. The system would also record the consent of both employer and employee to the monthly sum.
