Several motorists have complained about the abusive behavior exhibited by some youth on the roads.

A number of motorists described instances in which young motorists have chased women in their cars, disrupting traffic and harassing women on the road.

Tanzeem Rahman, a Jeddah resident, said she had on numerous occasions seen young men chasing women in their cars, taunting the drivers and causing serious traffic problems.

“It’s common to see male motorists harassing women and following them in their cars, especially on the weekends. The traffic department should take serious action against such behavior, as it is offensive and could lead to traffic accidents,” she added.

Nasar Iqbal, a taxi driver, told Arab News that he faced such problems frequently, especially when transporting female passengers.

“Many young motorists follow my taxi, disturbing passengers and causing traffic bottlenecks without realizing that such behavior is dangerous on the road and has adverse social implications,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Khalil Abbas, another motorist, suggested that more awareness campaigns should be organized in order to highlight and educate the youth about driving safely and adhering to respectful behavior toward women.

Stricter penalties should be enforced on motorists caught harassing or chasing women on the roads and in malls, he added.
