Nairiyah governorate will soon complete part of its new market to replace one of its oldest trading centers that has catered to customers in the Kingdom and other Gulf states over the years.

The market will include 100 shops with support services.

Syed Shuweil, the mayor of Nairiyah, said the municipality would soon complete the project. It would replace the old "chaotic and random" market, and likely receive many more visitors.

In addition to shops, there will be public utilities for men and women, areas for investors to set up supermarkets and restaurants, ATMs and parking lots.

The first phase of the market, which would cover an area of over 22,000 square meters, would cost SR3 billion. The average size of a shop is 23 square meters, he said.

Shuweil said the market would also provide an ideal place for handicraft producers to sell their goods such as handmade tents, old furniture, furs and equipment associated with camel herders.

The municipality has set aside more than 100 stalls for women to display their products.
