Najran’s Health Directorate held an emergency meeting with the Directorate of Agriculture and the province’s municipality after hospitals received several patients suffering from fever in the past few days.

Patients were suspected of having dengue fever, but the health directorate is still awaiting the results from the Central Lab in Riyadh.

Saleh bin Saad Al-Munis, director-general of Health Affairs in Najran, said patients suspected of having contracted dengue fever came mainly from Jeddah. He said all areas had been sprayed according to the province’s directions.

Al-Munis said the Preventive Medicine Directorate at the Najran Health Department held a meeting with the Directorate of Agriculture and the municipality following the emergence of dengue fever to devise a mechanism for vector control, in addition to taking preventive measures that ensure the safety of the area’s citizens. He said the Early Warning Committee would hold an emergency meeting to discuss ways to stop the disease from spreading in the area.

A source at the Control and Investigation Board (CIB) said it is following up on the health situation in the area and monitoring the efforts of directorates responsible for controlling the disease.
