The annual Mobily Jeddah Marathon biggest sponsor Nesma signed agreement as Diamond Sponsor of Mobily Jeddah Marathon with Bir Charitable organization on Thursday.

The annual Mobily Jeddah Marathon 2014 will take place on April 8.

Sheikh Saleh bin Ali Al-Turki, chairman of Nesma group of companies and member of the Supreme Committee for Mobily Marathon Jeddah 2014, said the marathon is a civilized and effective social sports development for any modern city as well as an effective social development tool of the sports community.

He further said that they are proud to be main sponsors of this annual event which will be under the patronage of Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed.

The marathon has become one of the most prominent seasonal activities of Al-Bir Society and the most attended sporting event in Jeddah where athletes and people from different parts of the Kingdom participate, including champions who have won regional and international prizes. The race also includes participants from other countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Ethiopia, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates, making it an international event.

He also said that they are very pleased to be part of this annual sport which is enjoyed by all the people of society equally and that serve the young athletes to work hard and try to shine thier country name in the world.

Mazen bin Mohammed Batterjee, president of Al-Bir Charitable Organization in Jeddah and member of the Supreme Committee of the Marathon, said that the signing of this agreement points to the continuing success achieved by this annual event over the years.

He further said that this enabled him to gain the confidence of the community in general and athletes in particular as he considered this marathon the most prominent seasonal activity of the Al-Bir Association in Jeddah.

He further said that they want to make this marathon a world marathon and every year new developments will be introduced in this regard.

“This project is a charitable and cooperative effort involving young people, teachers and students. Our main aim is to support charity through sports activity,” he said.

Batarjee pointed out that the marathon is being organized with the cooperation of the regional governor’s office, the Ministry of Education, Jeddah Municipality, Saudi Red Crescent, Civil Defense, Traffic Department, Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities.

Every year marathon involves three races of different lengths for different groups of runners. Each race have its own track and starting point, where the main track made for athletes and adults, 6 kilometres track for 18 and below 18 years old students, one track for disable people.
