Advance permission mandatory for transporting heavy equipment

JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality has made it mandatory for contractors to inform it in writing 14 days in advance before moving heavy equipment on roads. This decision was taken because some transportation or movement of such items might harm roads or bridges, said an online newspaper.
The municipality has included this condition as a clause in the project agreements of contractors who will have to name the vehicle to move the heavy equipment as well as the route they want to use. All these details must be provided in writing.
The process of clearance may require re-distribution of loads or items between trucks. In the case of any violation of the rule and the road is damaged, the violator will have to bear the cost of repairs.
At the same time, the Jeddah municipality is working on various other projects, including roads and sidewalks in south Jeddah, car parks and installing 500 chairs and 800 dustbins.
The newspaper has said that the decisions were taken because of the increase in population.
