JEDDAH: A total of 232 people injured in Sunday’s Aramco compound fire in Alkhobar have been discharged from hospitals here, the Eastern Province Health Department announced on Tuesday.
Fifty-seven are still receiving treatment at four hospitals, with eight in critical condition and 39 with medium injuries, health officials said. Ten people died in the disaster.
The injured people were treated at various hospitals, including the Aramco Hospital with 189 cases and 155 discharged, National Guard Hospital 32 cases and 23 discharged, Saad Specialist Hospital 14 cases, King Fahad University Hospital 13 cases and 11 discharged, and GAMA hospital eight cases.
At Dammam Medical Complex there were seven cases, Alkhobar Care Hospital six, King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Dammam five, Al-Mani Hospital in Alkhobar five, and Al-Mani Hospital in Dammam and Salam Hospital in Alkhobar one each.
In the aftermath of the fire, the health department in the Eastern Province announced a maximum alert at all health facilities in preparation for receiving injured people.
A short circuit involving a transformer in the basement of the residential complex of Saudi Aramco resulted in the massive fire, according to preliminary investigations.
