Power outage hits some Jeddah districts

JEDDAH: Residents of some districts in Jeddah, especially Al-Rawdah, complained of severe power outage on Monday.
The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) called on residents to report power outage instances to the customer service center at the SEC to deal with the problem.
The duration of the outage varied from place to place, from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The power outage affected the entire Al-Rawdah district and extended to other areas located near Prince Sultan Street. Citizens expressed their anger for the lengthy power outage.
On its Twitter account, the SEC called on citizens, who live in districts hit by the outage, to inform the customer service center. However, the company did not explain the reasons for the loss of power.
Fares Hussein, a resident of the area, said that the problem was more than irritating. “The company is moving very slowly. We called the customer service center, but the center did not respond. The outage lasted for three hours and there are others in neighboring areas who have been without power for five hours,” he said.
Mohammed Abdul Azeem, working for a construction company, said his family decided to move to one of their relatives’ homes at noon.
The SEC had previously clarified that the high consumption of electricity had increased the pressure on low ampere cables and that it sent a team to restore electricity to the district, according to local media.
