Four carjackers and a security officer were injured when a stolen Jeep owned by a US citizen overturned on top of a security patrol vehicle during a high-speed car chase.

An American expat lodged a complaint with the police that his car was stolen at 2 p.m. Friday while he was shopping at a local grocery store in north Jeddah, said Lt. Col. Atti Al-Qurashi, Makkah police spokesman.

Officers located the car in the Al-Herazat neighborhood east of Jeddah two hours later.

The officers then followed the vehicle until the driver deliberately rammed the patrol car, causing it to flip over.

Security authorities seized alcohol bottles, SR17,900 in cash and a 14 rounds of ammunition and a pistol from the vehicle.

The four offenders, aged between 21 and 37 years, were arrested. The security officer is said to be in a stable condition.
