The Islamic World Academy of Sciences has awarded an Honorary Fellow membership to OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in recognition of his contribution in the fields of science and technology.

The Certificate of Honorary Fellowship was presented by Abdel Salam Majali, president of the Executive Council of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences and ex-Prime Minister of Jordan, at a ceremony held at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah on Tuesday.

Majali was accompanied by IAS Director General Moneef Zou’bi. Ambassador Abdul Moiz Bokhari, OIC assistant secretary-general for Science and Technology, and Ahmed Lajami, director-general of the Cabinet and adviser to the Secretary-General, received the certificate on his behalf.

Majali underscored the crucial role of science and technology for socio-economic development of OIC member-states and addressed contemporary challenges in development, poverty eradication, environment, climate change, human health, energy and water resources. He appreciated the OIC Secretary General’s efforts for providing impetus to OIC activities and programs in the fields of science, technology and higher education.

Bokhari praised the constructive role of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences, an affiliate of the OIC, for the promotion of science and technology in the Islamic world and also expressed appreciation for the steps taken by Jordan for the promotion of science, technology and innovation and the development of the national education system.
