Tragedy struck two expatriate families from India and Pakistan on the same day.

The accidents also left other members of these families battling for their lives in different hospitals.

The first accident occurred at Zulm near Taif. An 11-month-old infant daughter of a Qatar-based Pakistani journalist died on the spot, while other members of the family sustained serious injuries.

Mohammed Khalid from Gulistan in Karachi, who was working as a producer with popular news channel Al Jazeera in Qatar, was headed to Makkah to perform Umrah with his family when the accident occurred 250 km from Taif.

The infant, Amaya, died on the spot, while Khalid, his wife Sameera and another daughter, Azmina, sustained injuries.

Azmina and Khalid were admitted to Zulm Hospital and Sameera, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to Taif’s King Abdulaziz Hospital by the Saudi Red Crescent Society.

Her entire arm was severely damaged and she was operated upon on Thursday morning, hospital sources told Arab News.

The community welfare team at the Pakistan Consulate has stepped in to extend help to the family.

The second road accident occurred at Al-Ghaat on the Riyadh-Qassim Highway.

Twelve-year-old Maria Sana, the daughter of Ghulam Mohammed from Mumbai, died on the spot, while her sibling, Marwa, was seriously injured when the van in which they were traveling overturned. Ghulam, who works as a sales executive for cosmetic products, was returning with his family to Buraidah from Riyadh when the accident took place.

He was apparently trying to drink water while driving and lost control of the vehicle in the process. Both Gulam and his wife miraculously escaped with minor injuries, sources said.

Maria was a student in the seventh class at the International Indian School-Buraidah. Her body was shifted to the general hospital in Al-Ghaat.

Marwa, also a student of the same school studying in Grade 1, was seriously injured and transferred to King Fahd Specialist Hospital, family sources said.

Her condition is said to be critical.
