Waleed Al-Khuraiji, director general of the Grain Silos & Flour Mills Organization (GSFMO), said that his organization welcomes the establishment of a separate committee for the distribution of flour in the Jeddah Chamber, which will be independent of bakery owners.

The new committee, he said, will have the favorable affect of consolidating the efforts of flour distributors.

He said that GSFMO hopes the committee will improve performance in distribution and help fight the shortcomings of the process. The hope is that all parties concerned receive their allotment in full, and no black market is allowed to arise for trading in this important foodstuff which enjoys the support of the state.

Al-Khuraiji said that the new committee will receive the support of GSFMO so that it can achieve the objectives for which it was established.

Adnan Mandourah, secretary-general of the Jeddah Chamber, said that the reason why an independent committee is established is to help achieve integration of the efforts of GSFMO, a government agency, and flour distributors and bakery owners, who form part of the private sector.

Suhaim Ghamidi, chairman of the flour distributors committee in Jeddah chamber, said that the main objective of the new committee is to fight price manipulation and fixing.

He said that contractors will be required to follow strict guidelines regarding the price and methods of distribution, in accordance with the objectives of the state and GSFMO.
