ABHA: The Ministry of Labor and Social Development is adopting new plans to empower orphans and enhance their skill potentials through the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) in addition to guidance programs.
Labor Minister Mufrej Al-Haqabani made this statement during a visit to the Social Education Center here to meet orphans.
He took a review of the services being provided to the orphans at the center and also listened to their proposals, as the children at the center sought the government to recognize their talents, improve their living conditions and changing of locations of their periodic trips.
Al-Haqabani stressed that the ministry is attaching great care to orphans.
The minister directed the concerned officials to take care of their requirements as also to reschedule their visits to private sector firms to familiarize them with these businesses and acquire knowledge.
Later, the minister inspected facilities of the center including housing buildings, activities and services and the food preparation room which is run by a group of Saudi women.
In a related development, the minister met with orphans of the Akha Foundation and listened to their demands, including their involvement in training courses that will promote their skills.
The minister affirmed that the labor and social development system is progressing in accordance with such approaches through exploiting potentials of the TVTC and the Saudi Credit and Savings Bank to serve them and activate their role in the community.
During the meeting, the minister briefed the orphans on the formation of the Consultative Council ordered by the minister during Ramadan, based on a proposal offered by an orphan from the Akha Foundation in Riyadh.
The membership of the council is composed of the Minister and a number of (male and female) orphans in a manner that will allow them discuss their social, academic and career situations.
