Police said Wednesday that one of the armed men who tried to storm the campus of a private women's college in Jeddah has been identified.

Lt. Nawwaf Al-Bouq, Jeddah police spokesman, said in a statement: “Our operation room received a report Sunday indicating that male suspects tried to storm a private college in Jeddah disguised as security guards.

“We immediately sent several patrols to the site, but the suspects had already fled the scene.”

He said the suspects used a stolen vehicle to storm the campus. The car belonged to an individual who was trying to sell it at an exhibition. The gunmen left the car at the site and fled before the police could arrive, the statement said.

Brig. Abdullah Al-Soli, Makkah’s regional police director, has directed Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Qahtani, director of Jeddah police, to commission the Criminal Investigation Division to arrest the suspects as soon as possible.

Al-Bouq confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. Most of the students at the college are of African and Asian descent.
