RIYADH: The recruitment of disabled Saudis is prioritized in the Nitaqat system, according to Article 10 of the amended Executive List of the Labor Law. The Ministry of Labor and Social Development reiterated that the move aims to encourage employers to offer more job opportunities to the most vulnerable segment of the society.

The ministry added that jobs offered to people with special needs should be proportionate to their physical disability, adding disabled people must receive an “information card” from the ministry describing the type of his disability and in line with the function of his job.

The ministry warned establishments against passing people with disabilities for promotions, not allowing them to benefit from training, or discriminating against them in terms of wages, saying that compliance with this will be enforced by its inspectors.

Any person who fulfils the work conditions and is deemed capable of performing the job required of him professionally and skilfully should be allowed to work.

In the case of the disabled, they should enjoy full rights and incentives just like everybody else.

The article specifies that every worker can benefit from the services that allow him to carry out his job in case of injury, on condition that the injury does not take him off work from more than 120 days.

Statistics from the General Organiation for Social Insurance put the number of disabled working in 31,790 establishments in the private sector at 65,580.
