Investigation teams are still awaiting the results of forensic analysis conducted on the five bodies that were unearthed from a farm in Safwa in the Qatif region last week.

Initial evidence indicates that the victims were of Asian descent. Although the garments discovered next to the remains were male, investigation teams are awaiting confirmation of the victims’ gender, which they say would facilitate the investigation.

Mohammad Al-Shehri, assistant media spokesman at the Eastern Province Police Department, said that authorities are still trying to establish the motive.

The criminal investigation team has completed field work and has begun gathering information for establishing circumstantial evidence and narrowing the search.

Lt. Col. Ziad Al-Ruqaiti, a spokesman at the Eastern Province police, said: “My colleagues have issued two statements on the matter already. We are unable to disclose further details at this time since this can affect work product and the results of the investigations.”

Shocked local residents have said that the grisly crime is the first of its kind in the Kingdom.

Some sources have said that remnants of wine manufacturing were found at the old farm, in addition to gambling tools.
