JEDDAH: A heat wave will affect the Kingdom as of this week except for the country’s resorts, especially the southwestern highlands, where rainy weather is expected to prevail starting on Sunday and continuing until the end of the week.
According to the director of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research and head of the Department of Meteorology at King Abdulaziz University Dr. Mansour Almazroui, the weather instability will affect the Eastern Province, especially the southern parts and the southern parts of Riyadh; the hot weather will continue until the end of the week.
He said temperatures will be in the range of 46 to 48 degrees Celsius; they might go up to 50 degrees in certain areas of the Eastern Province, especially the southern parts.
“The middle region will be affected, including Riyadh Region, Qassim and parts of Makkah and Madinah by hot to very hot temperatures,” he said.
Almazroui said recurring hot temperatures are expected during summer, brought about by a low Indian current that is seasonal and affects the area.
