The general supervisor of the Human Rights Commission in Madinah, Sharaf Al-Grafi, has disclosed the increasing number of cases of rights abuses and other infractions being registered at the branch.

Complaints and administrative issues rank first among these cases. Al-Grafi said that in 2014 they received 143 cases from men and 157 cases from women.

Among the cases were those directed toward government bodies which included the review of a ruling, or a royal amnesty, or demands to implement a judicial ruling, assault on property or objection to a decision or medical mistakes.

Prisoners’ cases reached 28 and were related to amnesty, objection of transfer, deteriorating health or finishing a sentence without the prisoner being released, or complaining for lack of ruling, bad treatment or overlooking the rules inside the prison.

He said domestic cases are related to violence within the family and usually take the form of physical or psychological abuse as a result of accusation and addiction, as well as sexual abuse or preventing women from education. These stood at 49 cases. Madinah came second after Riyadh in the number of reported cases with 117.

He pointed out that 22 cases were related to the labor law and prevention of workers from taking their documents or objecting to delaying decisions related to their appointment, in addition to compulsory deportation or transfer of sponsorship.

The director said civil status issues reached 45 cases. Madinah came second after Riyadh.

These complaints are related to personal rights, divorce, custody or alimony.

The number of civil cases reached 14. These come in the form of complaints related to revoking nationality, or reclaiming it, personal documents, refusal to add siblings or non-documentation of some events related to civil status.

Al-Grafi said abuse cases against children who have been deprived of identity papers or education reached 33.

The commission received other cases related to disputes between individuals and companies. Madinah came third in the total number of cases in 2014 after Riyadh and Jazan.
