— People who tailgate you and ride up your rear and they won’t pass you but instead simply stay three feet behind and they loom in your rearview mirror and directly contribute to accidents. At night they are the ones who flash their headlights in your eyes. Usually van and pick up drivers.

— Those who overtake from the wrong side of the road and roar past without a care, making you wrench your wheel and almost cause a collision. Usually VIPs (or so they think) in big cars because they have wasta.

— People who park in two parking spots with the tire happily perched over the white line so now you cannot park. What did they think those lines are there for…an art exhibition. Even if you did park you cannot open the door and crawl out. Normally 4-wheel drivers and generally every idiot on the road.

— Motorists who are coming straight from your left and you are waiting patiently at the intersection to get into the stream and they won’t indicate they are turning and they turn right next to you and you look at them and think, whaaat, you couldn’t just blink your light so I could have got into the flow. Small car owners and chauffeurs.

— Folks who speed onto the yellow areas and then suddenly take one of the forks without telling you which one and cause utter confusion for those behind because it is a guessing game all the way. If you don’t know the way ask someone.

— The weaver is the most dangerous. Like a needle and a thread he weaves his way at full speed through the traffic changing lanes at will, now in one, than into two, finding a gap and roaring into four, then back to the fast lane, then zipping through the next space and being the biggest menace on the road. Young people in fast cars who think nothing can happen to them till it does.

— Slowcoaches who insist on driving at 50 kph in the fast track and block everyone and they won’t move even if you honk because that is it, they intend to stay there. Usually elderly people in tired cars who don’t want to know the rules of safe driving and don’t care.

l People who do not stop for pedestrians at even pedestrian crossings and zebras and for sheer bad manners, that behavior is hard to beat. Successful young men in upmarket cars who think the world belongs to them.

— People who use mobile phones, send text messages, fiddle with radio stations and drive with one hand as they multitask and zigzag all over the lane. You know straight away the guy in front is on the phone, his driving skills drop drastically. People with an inferiority complex who think the world needs them all the time.

— The competitor. This could be anybody but 40% of car owners are like this some time in their lives. They have to win, regardless. They have to take that chance and forge ahead, slip past that man they see as a challenge even though he is a total stranger. It can happen at a red light, because they have the same model cars or because the unspoken gauntlet has been thrown. Some throwback to our primeval past but the single most dangerous reason for accidents.
