The officials and employees of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) join the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and the Filipino communities in Saudi Arabia in celebrating the 118th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day this year.
Being the agency of the Philippine government mandated to preserve and develop the culture, tradition, institutions and well-being of Muslim Filipinos, the NCMF takes pride in recognizing the value, importance, mutual aspect and reciprocal character of the bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the Philippines.
Although the first Philippine Mission in the Kingdom was opened in Jeddah on Dec. 23, 1973, Muslim Filipinos had earlier established a strong and enduring relations with service providers and hosts of the annual Haj pilgrimage and the government of Saudi Arabia.
Aside from Haj, certain Filipinos were beneficiaries of educational grants being provided by the esteemed government of Saudi Arabia.
In fact, until now the educational program being made available for Muslim Filipinos has been continued, expanded and sustained to accommodate qualified and deserving applicants from the Philippines.
Moreover, the growing number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia is an indication of more available work opportunities for Muslim Filipinos on account of their ready access to Makkah and Madinah.
Thus, the members of the Muslim communities view with great pleasure and appreciation the growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
We have every reason to be jubilant and grateful, as we celebrate this year’s Philippine Independence Day and Mabuhay!
