A Saudi man committed suicide after he shot his ex-mother-in-law, injured both his ex-wife and her sister and set the house on fire yesterday morning in Jama’a district in Jeddah.
The Civil Defense rushed to the scene and put out the fire.
“A fight broke out between a divorced couple, which unfortunately escalated into a murder and fire. We have launched an investigation into the incident. The victims were taken by an ambulance to hospital,” said spokesman of Jeddah police First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq.
“The husband aimed to shoot his ex-wife. However, he injured her in the arm but killed his ex-mother-in-law,” he added.
Al-Bouq said the police have submitted the investigation file to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution in Jeddah and will continue to follow up on the case.
Saeed Al-Sarhan, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Makkah province, said the Civil Defense succeeded in putting out the fire, which destroyed much of the first floor in a short time. The Civil Defense team also provided their first assessment to police regarding the cause of the fire and contacted both Jeddah police and the Department of Criminal Investigation to analyze the crime scene.
