The General Directorate of Civil Defense will hold a series of functions to mark World Civil Defense Day, which falls on March 1, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The functions are primarily meant to spread the culture of safety and raise awareness on life-threatening risks and how to take safety measures at home and places of work, the SPA report said.

Maj. Gen. Sulaiman Al-Amro, director-general of the Civil Defense, said the Kingdom is keen on joining world countries on this occasion.

The functions will include awareness exhibitions, symposia, workshops and field visits to educational and industrial facilities, public and private firms, social care centers and voluntary societies.

Awareness activities will be aired through different local mass media, social media and Civil Defense applications via smart devices highlighting safety guidelines and the role of individuals in observing safety measures and reporting safety irregularities in places where they live or work, he said.

The functions will also brief the audience on the volume of support given to the Civil Defense by the Saudi government, which provides ample capabilities and resources to enable the country to carry out its national and humanitarian missions to both citizens and residents and provide support to allies in times of disaster and crises, he said.

Al-Amro said part of the functions will be dedicated to women, children and individuals with special needs.
