JEDDAH: The police this week arrested six people with links to terrorist groups. They are three Yemenis, two Syrians (all carrying iqamas) and one Saudi, security sources said.
All six are under detention and being investigated for their links to terrorist groups, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the number of detainees in the general investigation prisons in connection with terrorist groups dropped to 5,172 according to the latest updates, compared to 5,178 at the beginning of the last week, the sources said.
In another development, the Special Criminal Court in Riyadh on Sunday issued a preliminary verdict convicting four Saudis of possessing hashish, traveling to Syria and joining the terrorist Al-Nusra Front without getting permission from their guardians.
The first, second and third defendants were also charged with possessing tools for smoking the narcotic hashish.
Accordingly, each of the first three defenders was given eight years in prison from the date of arrest, fined SR2,500, ordered lashed 80 times, and banned from travel to foreign countries for similar periods after the end of their prison terms.
The court also discretionally ruled three years in prison for the fourth defendant from the date of arrest, and banned him from traveling abroad for a similar period.
