A group of stranded Indian workers who were not paid for the past six months are set to leave the Kingdom after their local agents agreed to pay for their return passage.

The group comprising 13 workers were contracted to work in Riyadh as waiters in a coffee shop following their arrival in the capital. To their shock, the workers who came to a manpower recruitment company in the Kingdom were sent to work in various odd jobs in all parts of the country. They were promised SR800 monthly salary plus food and accommodation.

The workers have already borrowed loans and paid the local agents a sum of SR7,000 to cover their travel and visa fees back home.

A spokesman from the Islamic Cultural Foundation (ICF), a social service organization, which has been assisting the stranded group, told Arab News that the local job agent in South India had cheated the workers of their money leading to their sufferings here.

The social worker confirmed that the Saudi recruiting agent had paid the airfare and the visa fees of the workers to come to the Kingdom.

However, the Saudi agent had agreed to pay the salary dues of the workers and repatriate them on the condition that the Indian agent provided them with the return tickets to their home country.
