The National Water Company is currently implementing 60 water and sewage projects in Makkah at a total cost of SR5.5 billion, the NWC said in a statement on Sunday. The projects will serve residents as well as pilgrims.

The projects include a strategic water storage facility with a capacity of 1.3 million cubic meters, installation of new water and sewage pipelines, repair works on existing pipelines and provision of home connections.

The storage facility will cost SR1 billion.

Projects under implementation include water networks in Bathaa Quraish and Awali at a cost of SR127 million, the statement said, adding that it involves construction of a 200-km pipeline and connections to 13,000 homes.

A total of 11,000 water connections will be provided in Faiha and Buhairat at a cost of SR198 million, the statement said, adding that another 15,000 connections will be provided in Sharaie at a cost of SR 110 million.

“The company is also working on replacing the existing sewage network in Aziziya with a new one at a cost of SR170 million,” the statement said.

NWC is currently expanding the sewage water treatment plant west of Makkah at a cost of SR136 million to increase its daily capacity to 250,000 cubic meters. A new water pipeline will be constructed between Makkah and a new government department complex valued at SR90 million.

The project to renovate toilets in the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah will cost SR120 million.

A 20 km sewage network will be established south of Makkah at a cost of SR160 million, the company said.
