Foreign nationals, persons of Indian origin and non-resident Indians can now apply for studies in India.

The Indian consulate in Jeddah announced in a press release on Thursday that these groups of people can pursue certain courses in India under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme of the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The MHRD has invited applications for undergraduate programs in engineering and architecture for the academic year 2014-15 at National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and other premier Centrally Funded Technical Institutions in India.

Admission requirements include having passed the qualifying examination at grade 12 level, or equivalent from any institution recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

Candidates need a minimum of 60 percent aggregate in mathematics, physics and any one of chemistry, biotechnology, computer science and biology in grade 11 and 12 examinations. Candidates should have a minimum total score of 1,440 in SAT tests including mathematics level 2, physics and chemistry.

Candidates must apply online at www.dasanit.org and submit a signed printed copy of the application along with required documents and payment details to the DASA office. SAT test scores should be sent electronically through the college board in the United States.
