ABHA: Sugar and Spice is a company run by 14 Saudi and Arab women, which has achieved success and started receiving orders for buffet events across the Gulf countries, including Qatar and the UAE, in addition to many regions of the Kingdom.
Their services are in demand for events like birthday celebrations, marriages, Ramadan events, Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and other such traditional events in various regions of the Kingdom. The Sugar and Spice team has different innovative ideas which fit the demands of Saudi society.
Mai Al-Wakeel, a female entrepreneur and owner of the company, said that the company is capable of organizing small parties for 300 people. “Society needs different and new things in this area. We have women workers from Egypt, Jordan and Syria, along with Saudis.”
Sugar and Spice has become popular particularly for its small-sized pastries which are prepared in different flavors. “Yearly, we get two orders from outside the Kingdom, as well as orders from abroad for their relatives living in the Kingdom.”
She said that the success of Sugar and Spice was due to the keen interest of her mother, Hanan Abu Suleiman, for food and her innovative ideas. “She used to prepare food with lots of love and care. She had wonderful taste for it and she participated in many food-related events in Lebanon, London, Switzerland, which sharpened her skills.”
In 2006, she decided to open a kitchen in her home to prepare different tasty dishes. When she became successful in doing so for small events like marriages. She received orders from various companies and famous event managers. This was the moment when friends urged her to set up a business. Then the kitchen moved from home to a villa where more workers could do the job.
