JEDDAH: The Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) will hold a workshop to study the sustainability of the economy of the Kingdom through Haj and Umrah on Sunday.
Maher bin Saleh Jamal, chairman of the MCCI, said the workshop, under the supervision of Hesham Al-Falih, chairman of the Haj executive and preparatory committee, will study ways to achieve sustainable growth in all economic sectors during the Haj and Umrah seasons.
He said that 30 million pilgrims are expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia in the year 2030.
Jamal said the workshop aims to maximize the benefits of the local economy through Haj and Umrah. “Many issues that affect the living and social aspects of the residents and visitors of Makkah, in addition to issues of various sectors will be discussed at the event.”
The MCCI chief said that ways to bridge the shortage of services and facilities, such as bottlenecks in streets during the pilgrimage season will also be discussed.
The aim to bring harmonization between reality and aspirations in order to accommodate 15 million pilgrims in 2020, and 30 million in 2030, according to the goals of Vision 2030. Participants from various sectors will discuss the opportunities and viability of projects to achieve sustainable growth in the market.
A proposal will be submitted to overcome the challenges and obstacles and to enhance the role of both the public and private sectors to assist in the success of the project.
