RIYADH: A world-class manufacturing institute has been set up by the King Saud University (KSU) here with the aim to boost the manufacturing sector by increasing efficiency and accelerating the adoption of technologies. The move will add to efforts in diversifying the economy, cutting dependence on oil.

“The KSU has responded to the strategic national requirements and placed industrial research and development among its top priorities in KSU’s Strategic Plan 2030,” said a statement here on Thursday.

The KSU’s Advance Manufacturing Institute (AMI) will help the process of industrialization, technology transfer and innovation.

This institute at KSU is part of an expansion of the program of manufacturing and technology transfer. The AMI serves the industrial sector.

The vision is to become the leading institute in advanced manufacturing technologies and systems across the region with internationally recognized capabilities.

The AMI seeks to achieve research and development excellence in product design and manufacturing by using advanced computer-aided systems capabilities and modern facilities for design, testing, manufacturing and quality assurance of products, spare parts and materials. It also contributes to professional development of students, business houses and engineers.
