JEDDAH: A number of international officials and representatives of global relief bureaus and humanitarian organizations have praised the Kingdom for its efforts through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
John Gang, representative of the United Nations for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said that Saudi Arabia was ranked first in providing humanitarian assistance, and that its support and solidarity with the Yemeni people is helping a large part of the population there.
Gang’s remarks came at a signing ceremony for an executive program with the King Salman Center. He stressed that the center’s role is not limited to being a donor but that it is also a strategic partner with UN organizations.
Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) Ramiro Lopes da Silva, expressed satisfaction with the actions of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
He said that the World Food Program had been receiving support from Saudi Arabia since 1973. “From 2008 until today, Saudi Arabia has provided massively to the WFP. Signing this agreement with the King Salman Center renews this sustainable partnership,” Da Silva added.
Abu Baker Mohammed, representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, his government and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for providing humanitarian services; he noted that the partnership and cooperation between the organization and the Kingdom began in 1948.
Dr. Nabil Othman, regional representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), thanked the Kingdom and the King Salman Center for helping refugees, pointing out that the center signed an agreement with UNHCR to provide support for displaced Yemenis.
Amer Daoudi, regional coordinator for humanitarian operations in Yemen, expressed his appreciation to the Saudi government and the center for assistance to the Yemeni people. He stressed that the organizations would develop relationships with the King Salman Center and that the Kingdom had always provided assistance to needy people all over the world.
In turn, Dr. Nasser Baaoum, Yemeni minister of health and member of the supreme committee for relief, extended his thanks to King Salman for supporting Yemen. “The center provided aid to the needy people in the first two weeks of its establishment,” he said, and he lauded the Kingdom’s direct support for Yemen and its health sector.
In a similar development, Dr. Alaa Alwan, director of the Eastern Mediterranean Office of the World Health Organization, expressed thanks and appreciation to King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for supporting the health sector in Yemen.
He praised the assistance provided by the center to the World Health Organization in carrying out its duties in Yemen.
