Abdul Aziz Al-Jasser, president of the Meteorology and Environmental Protection Administration (MEPA), said Saudi women will be employed in this sector this year.

Speaking to local media, Al-Jasser said: “The jobs will involve inspecting women-only plants to monitor levels of industrial pollutions resulting from the operation of these plants,” adding that the monitoring and control of industrial pollution levels is a task entrusted to the MEPA.

He added that the MEPA intends to employ Saudi women in the field of environmental awareness as they can reach women in their homes and tell them how to caring for the environment. He pointed out that MEPA has intended in the past to recruit female social workers to deal with households, and to support the Friends of Environment Committee which aims to educate people on environment issues.

"MEPA had embarked on addressing the various governorates across the Kingdom to inform the administration on cases of pollutions and emissions that exceed the authorized levels,” said Al-Jasser.

With regard to the complaints of south Riyadh residents of health hazards resulting from a cement plant on the south circular road, he said the plant would be relocated to another site soon.
