JEDDAH: Yemeni politicians praised the role of the Arab coalition in reinstating the legitimate government in Yemen, not just through military means but also through political negotiations and humanitarian efforts.
They also praised the role of Saudi Arabia in convincing the delegation of the legitimate government to participate in peace talks, as well as the efforts of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid in distributing aid to Yemenis in need, regardless of their political or religious affiliations.
Political analyst Salim Thabet said the Kingdom’s position with Operation Decisive Storm is a historical one and will be engraved in the history of Yemen as the effort has protected the country from further ruin. He said both countries enjoy brotherly and special relations due to many common factors, which will only get better over time.
He said the Kingdom took a firm stance to protect the country from the alliance between ousted leader Ali Abdullah Saleh and Iran, and spent tens of millions of dollars with its leadership of the Arab coalition to halt Iran’s long-term plans for Yemen and the region.
Activist for the Popular Resistance in Taiz, Saeed Al-Husbi, said the military role played by the Arab coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen is only a part of its efforts. He said coalition airstrikes have been successful in destroying the capabilities of the rebels, while the coalition was also successful in training forces of the Popular Resistance, thus allowing the national army to regain strength.
“The Kingdom led efforts to form the coalition, which gave a strong Arab push in preventing Iran’s ambitions,” he said. Despite the numerous violations by militias, the Kingdom and coalition forces remained strong and in control in order to prepare the right environment for talks in Kuwait.
The King Salman Center also played a key role in supporting Yemeni civilians, he said, noting the Kingdom alone has provided 70 percent of the aid to Yemen.
